Letter to 1/2/5th Year Parents/Litir chuig Tuistí 1/2/5 Bliain

A Chairde,

Tá súil agam go bhfuil sibh ar fad i mbarr na sláinte sna tréimhsí crua seo.

As we approach the end of the school Academic Year it is important to outline the next few weeks of online learning and assessment. Following the Taoiseach’s announcement on Friday it is evident that the student’s will unfortunately not be back in school this Academic Year.

With this foreseen, teachers have been in consultation with management and their departments in how to assess and report the year 20/21. Although 3rd year students will follow a whole school agreed report; it has been decided that each department will decide on how they will assess and report for 1st, 2nd and 5th Year. All teachers have been advised that the heavy weight of the marking should be awarded on work throughout the academic year. This could be assessed by average class marks/ project work/ CBAs/ practical work/ class work/ effort/ engagement etc.

We are very aware that during this period many students might have an educational disadvantage regarding technology, family circumstances, illness etc. Please make the Class Teacher/Yearhead aware of this over the next period if you have not done so already.

Each department will provide an assessment over the next period which will form a part of their mark sent home on their school report. This will be outlined individually by each teacher to the students over the next few days. This might be in the form of online assessment/ open book exam/ project/ CBA work/ practical work/ online engagement/ continuous assessment etc.

The following is an outline of the next few weeks:

5-8 May: Continuous engagement online with teachers

11-15 May: Revision and study week with teachers and individually.

18-22 May: Assessments

26-29 May: Online feedback and reporting of results

Week of 8th June: Posting of School Report

Students will be sent an email as Gaeilge outlining this information. Each subject teacher will outline their assessment to the students over the next few days. They will be sent a class based outline of what will be assessed with all subjects to avoid confusion and a timetable for the week of 18-22 May also in the next few days.

Teachers will be engaging with the SEN Co-ordinator and she will be in contact with SEN Students over the period to try and make these Assessments as smooth as possible under the circumstances. isabel@colaistedehide.ie

Pádraig our School Counselor is available for any 1-1 or group online counselling sessions should a student wish to speak to him regarding any worry they might have. padraigmacanbhaird@colaistedehide.ie

If you have any questions regarding any of the above please do not hesitate in contacting me at conchubhair@colaistedehide.ie.

Many thanks for your support and patience over the last difficult period. It is important that all students make a big effort to engage with the teachers online until the end of May.

Tabhair aire,

Míle buíochas,

Le dea-mhéin,
